“Aporrea Internacional”: A Multilingual Media Project Begins to Publish Contents in English

By: Aporrea Internacional

“Aporrea Internacional” is a project that initially seeks to spread in English part of the news and most relevant articles of opinion in Spanish already published on the main Website Aporrea.org.

Aporrea Internacional begins with a blog, where daily translations from Spanish to English of news and/or opinion articles of the Website www.aporrea.org are published. Aporrea Internacional also has a Twitter (@AporreaI) and  a Facebook account (Aporreainternational). On these social networks, not only the daily translations from Aporrea.org are published, but also all headlines in Spanish related to our editorial line, expressed in the foreword of the Venezuelan Law for the Communication of the People Power, approved on Dec. 29th, 2015, that states:

“The landmark milestones for Venezuela and the struggle of our popular, alternative and community communication are the events of April 2002 on the occasion of the coup d'état, promoted by some stateless civilian and military groups with the support of private media corporations and transnationals. On April 11th, 12th and 13th, 2002 the private media outlets silenced, distorted and manipulated the truth about the facts, while the people assumed their role as a Communicating People. Together with the popular, alternative and community media, they spoke up and broke out the media siege under precarious conditions of resources and high risk, as a spontaneous vanguard in the defense of the Homeland, the truth and the freedom of expression. Also, contributing to the spreading and convening of popular mobilization that returned the Constitutional thread, the participatory and protagonist democracy, and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, defeating hence the coup d'état; these actions have guaranteed us the validity of our Venezuelan Constitution and our sovereignty.

The new model of Popular Communication proposes here promises of an inclusive, free and open, critical and self-critical, emancipatory and non-bureaucratic communication of the creation and recreation of the everyday culture and life, where the collective memory and the expression be widely expressed. The popular imaginary is rich as an authentic expression of freedom and sovereignty; prioritizing the ethics before the aesthetics, the fact instead of the assumption, the reality instead of the illusion, the truth before the deception: Turning the communication into a higher form of the struggle of the Peoples for the achievement of their own goals and objectives through the development and spread of its written, visual, auditory, audiovisual, multimedia and other contents, as expressions of the voice of the peoples, in the legitimate use of its constituent and sovereign power, insisting as the Communicating People".
